HOUSE OF THE REPUBLIC

The House and the Club of the Republic were the hub of the festival. In 2025, they were both placed under the roof of Funkhaus in Vienna’s fourth district near Karlsplatz. Things were hot and kept with the festival theme: for example with the debate series Revolutionary Love, shamanistic performances by the campfire and the Band of the Republic LUV. For the entire period, in-house artists SIGNA were showing their performance installation and students of the University of Applied Arts gave creative design input to the House and the Club of the Republic. Workshops and a comprehensive programme for children and young people was available every week. In addition, the Free Radio of the Republic went on air in collaboration with Radio ORANGE 94.0. Doors and hearts were wide open at any time.

Programme House of the Republic

Revolutionary Love

Revolutionary Love – curated by Srećko Horvat – brought leading thinkers, artists and activists together to explore the role of love in revolutionary movements. It questioned why demands that once used to be progressive are considered radical once more, and how capitalism and algorithms shape our notions of love. The goal was to recapture love as a driving force for social change.

Free Radio of the Republic

The Free Radio of the Republic was on air for five weeks. Radio ORANGE 94.0 took over broadcasting from Funkhaus. The programme included  wild and touching love stories from Viennese people and conversations with artists and representatives of initiatives to broadcasts of debates from the series Revolutionary Love and weekly updates on the Free Republic.

Workshops

Being the lively headquarters of the Free Republic of Vienna, the House of the Republic at Funkhaus was a place to think, work and live together; a place where social movements and activist artists from across the world gave insights into their work and invited the audience into an exchange.
