We live in a time in which words can become weapons as quickly as they can be drowned out by the sound of wars. Still, literature is able to write that which can often not be said. The two renowned contemporary writers Adania Shibli and Eva Menasse discuss Love and Language in Times of Turmoil. Eva Menasse, one of Austria's most significant contemporary authors, wrote her first novel Vienna about a family with half Jewish, half Christian roots in twentieth century Austria. Her novel Dunkelblum about historical guilt, the question of remembrance and the devastating power of silence became an absolute bestseller. Palestinian writer Adania Shibli is one of the most exciting voices in contemporary fiction. She has received numerous awards for her works, which have been translated into many languages. Her novel Minor Detail (2020) was also nominated for the International Booker Prize.
These two writers share a stage in Vienna.
