In Colombian Spanish, the word ‘cacharro’ means stuff or junk, objects that are often old, damaged or unused - things that need to be repaired or gifts with which one does not identify. This workshop invited us to reflect on the relationship between people and such ‘cacharros’ – objects that we live with but hardly notice. In an experimental setting, we explored the transformative potential of imagination based on the perception of our bodies and their boundaries. Through discursive and performative practices, thoughts and concepts about our relationship to objects, materials and nature were revealed. In doing so, we questioned existing hierarchies and considered perspectives of equality in order to derive consequences for our consumer behavior and our interaction with the environment.
The format was developed as part of the mentoring program Academy of Unlearning by kulturen in bewegung.
