Centroamérica is a political and personal fresco of Central America. Based on the compelling story of a Nicaraguan woman who had to flee the dictatorship, this play is a humorous reflection about revolutions, common futures and the tireless human spirit.
The Mexican collective Lagartijas tiradas al sol is back in Vienna. Its new piece Centroamérica is based on the compelling story of a Nicaraguan woman who fled Daniel Ortega’s dictatorship and is no longer able to return to her country. During the research phase for Centroamérica, this woman asked the theatre makers to bury her son, who had died of COVID-19, in Nicaragua. Thus Centroamérica became a comprehensive documentary investigation that connects texts, videos, archive material and theatrical inventions with this very personal journey. The result is a realistic and fantastical, political and personal as well as humorous fresco of Central America. From the dense jungles of the Darién Gap to the borders militarized through US-American influence, this project reflects on revolutions, common futures and the tireless human spirit.
