Sandra Calderan and Rébecca Chaillon, self-proclaimed 'countryside lesbians', will turn the stage into a laboratory of chaos and present a model for a utopian world in this joyful performance. Can feminism and 'gouinerie' (lesbianism) save lives?
Rébecca Chaillon and Sandra Calderan, self-proclaimed 'countryside lesbians' and a couple off stage, too, playfully deconstruct the myth of the traditional, heterosexual and catholic family model with its icons of Daddy and Mummy in this joyful performance. They show how feminism and 'gouinerie' (lesbianism) can save lives, even or especially in the countryside. The title La Gouineraie – The Dyke Orchard in English – is inspired both by the cherry orchards and rose gardens in agriculture and by plays such as Anton Chekov's The Cherry Orchard about the end of an old order and the beginning of a new order. Rébecca Chaillon and Sandra Calderan transform the stage into a laboratory of chaos and present us with a model for a possible rearrangement of the world, in which old contradictions and prohibitions become redundant. Rébecca Chaillon, a celebrated theatre maker in France, presents herself together with the stage artist Sandra Calderan for the first time in Austria with The Dyke Orchard.
