The second Congress of Vienna addresses the way we deal with abuse, infringements and violence and therefore also touches on one of the probably most influential movements of the last years: #MeToo. The latter triggered fundamental change in the art and culture scene and brought entanglements of sexual violence and power to the light – in the very scene in which crossing boundaries, excess and collective action are so closely intertwined.
For three days, cases that have moved Vienna, Europe and the world will be the focus. The factual circumstances around the Viennese action artist Otto Mühl, the former Burgtheater star Florian Teichtmeister and the most famous German-language band in the world, Rammstein, could not be more different. Yet they are united by one question: Can art be separated from the artist? How closely are art, violence and capital intertwined? And who would eventually profit from art that produces real victims?
During the congress weekend, DER STANDARD will once again accompany the programme with a livestream in German and English and a live ticker.
