SIGNA

Biography

SIGNA is a Danish-Austrian performance collective consisting of performance and installation artist Signa Köstler and media-performance artist Arthur Köstler. SIGNA is currently one of the most innovative theatre and performance groups in Europe. SIGNA mainly stage performances in vacant buildings or derelict sites and have redefined the concept of site-specific theatre. They are pioneers of immersive theatre: SIGNA don’t only perform at a venue, they create a self-contained world the audience can experience and explore for themselves. Their performances last between 3 and 288 hours at a time. Sometimes, visitors can choose how long they want to stay in the installation.

In 2008, SIGNA were invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen with Die Erscheinungen der Martha Rubin (Schauspiel Köln). Wir Hunde / Us Dogs was created for the Wiener Festwochen in cooperation with the Volkstheater Wien in 2016. Their most recent works include Die Ruhe at Paketpostamt Altona (2021/22 season), which was also invited to the Theatertreffen, and the immersive installation Das 13. Jahr for Schauspielhaus Hamburg in 2023.
