Tiago Rodrigues is a Portuguese theatre director and producer. His encounter – as an actor – with the Antwerp-based theatre collective STAN in 1997 taught him about the principles of collective creative work. The non-hierarchical approach of the ensemble left a lasting impression on him. With his company Mundo Perfeito, co-founded together with Magda Bizarro in 2003, he has presented his works in more than 20 countries and is regularly invited to all important European festivals. In addition to his collaborations with several Portuguese and international stage artists, he has also written screenplays, newspaper contributions and literary texts and taught at institutions that include that Belgian dance school P.A.R.T.S. No matter whether mixing true stories and fiction, rewriting classics or adapting novels, the theatre of Tiago Rodrigues is always developed for and with the actors, striving to blend reality and fiction through poetry. He regards theatre as a “human assembly” – a place where people meet, as in a café, to share their thoughts and spend time together. As director of the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Tiago Rodrigues is a builder of bridges between cities and countries, at once host and advocate of a living theatre. Wiener Festwochen has presented his plays By Heart (2016) and Sopro (2019).
