Happiness often rests in the little things, as Belgian director and performer Benjamin Verdonck reminds us. Inspired by legendary comics such as Tommy Cooper, Buster Keaton and Ōno Kazuo, he takes us into his magical world of small gestures and great questions.
A box of matches, some laces and a spark of melancholia – that is all it takes for Belgian artist and performer Benjamin Verdonck and his solo performance ALL BEFORE DEATH IS LIFE. The philosopher of the everyday reminds us that failure is warranted and that happiness often rests in the small things. What does the gradual fading of our enthusiasm for the simple things of everyday life do to us humans? How can we retain our sense of wonder, our curiosity about the unexpected, instead of always wanting to have everything under control while life passes us by? As the title says: all before death is life! Inspired by legendary comics such as Tommy Cooper, Buster Keaton and Ōno Kazuo, Verdonck is taking us along into a world of exuberant imagination. As a magician with empty hands, he mesmerizes us with the disarming abundance of his world.
