What happens when the police fall asleep? When the cat's away... aims to give the body of the police a form that opens up new discussions and imaginary worlds. The always upright, standing bodies of the police officers are transformed here into soft, semi-recumbent ones - like a transition from the usual vertical of power to a new horizontal. This image suspends surveillance for a moment and questions the social conditions of public servants. What role could the police play in a real utopia?

GORODKI
Performance game by Anna Grebennikova

Gorodki
is a performance game. Someone builds barricades, and someone destroys them, and so on and so on ad infinitum. As if it were a natural process. “I want to suggest that the audience builds and destroys something.”

GUIDED TOURS

23 scenographers from the scenography class under the direction of Nina von Mechow spent two semesters developing the central spaces of the Free Republic of Vienna. Confronting historical models, they wondered: how does utopia manifest itself? What emerged are spaces that issue an invitation to take on unexpected perspectives, to try out alternative forms of community, to instigate a dialogue between the preliminaries and the unwritten future of the Free Republic of Vienna. Spaces to think and work, to eat and dance, spaces that are not static, but mutate over the course of the five weeks. To make this possible, the artists will operate an open workshop in the House of the Republic. Every second week, the Academy of Fine Arts scenographers will invite the audience on a tour of discovery of the house and to cast a look behind the facade.
