They are infamous from chats, inquiry commissions and trials: elites, officials, busybodies. Their dictum: anything goes! Enterprises, media empires, impostors and rascals who can count on the ‘pillars of society’ and their adulators when they mount their charades and shaming drives either behind the scenes or in your face. Where some see an Austrian form of statesmanship, others find a panopticon of the ‘corrupt republic’. Three cases will serve to illuminate the conglomerate of politics, business and media.
