A group of free women once lived, worked and battled on the shores of the Black Sea. They established a community without men and called themselves the Amazons. How did that happen? And why did the male heroes of Antiquity react with such aggression? Using Lego figurines, landscape models, live video and protest pictures from the internet, a story-teller traces the myth and stages a contemporary version for children between the ages of six and twelve. Without adult accompaniment, Amazons launches an open conversation among children of the same age to address pivotal questions of our time. Is the use of violence justified in order to fend off attacks from outside? How far may or should we go to defend our own opinion and protest against (gender) inequality? Who are the Amazons of our time? And what does it all have to do with the Amazon River?
