In 2021, the Wiener Festwochen are inviting four artists to prolong their stay in Vienna coinciding with the presentation of their artistic works so they can immerse themselves in the city and be enriched by it. As they integrate into the festival structure, the Visiting Artists – Brazilian performer and activist Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, South African poet Koleka Putuma, and Tehran-based theatre director Azade Shahmiri – will spend several weeks engaging with Vienna in many different ways. Focusing on pivotal geographic and biographical aspects, they will interact with the city and its inhabitants, the local art scene, and other international guests. The high-paced festival rhythm with its arrivals, premieres, and departures will be complemented by reciprocal relationships and new synergies.
