Sara Ostertag is an Austrian theater maker working in Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. She studies theater directing and choreography in Vienna, Zurich and Amsterdam. As part of her Masters, she wrote her final thesis with Milo Rau and researched at the School for New Dance Development and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the class for performance art. She is co-founder of the multiple award-winning collective makemake produktionen, with which she has been working intensively in Vienna since then. Starting from 2014 she worked for three years, as in-house director at the State-Theater of Mainz. She works, among others, at the Oldenburg State Theater, the Vorarlberger Landestheater, the Lower Austria State Theater, the Luxembourg Philharmonics, the Kopergietery Gent, the Wien Modern Festival and others. Since 2017 she has worked as a dramaturge for Florentina Holzinger, whose pieces have toured around the world, most recently TANZ which got invited to the Theatertreffen in Berlin 2020. Since 2015 she has been the artistic director of the SCHÄXPIR Festival for young audiences in the City of Linz. She has been awarded the Theodor Körner Prize of the Republic of Austria, the Austrian Children's and Youth Theater Prize Stella and has received the START Scholarship for Performing Arts and the International Dance Web Scholarship. In 2018 she received the NESTROY Theater Prize for the best off-theater director and completed the postgraduate course in curating in the scenic arts at the University of Salzburg. Her most recent production Das große Heft got shortlistet for the Berlin Theatertreffen 2020.
