Mary Jane Leach is a U.S. composer and musician. Her work reveals a fascination with the physicality of sound, its acoustic properties and how they interact with space. Most of her creations use difference, combination and interference tones that are not actually sounded by the performers but rather are acoustic phenomena arising from intonation and vibration. In recent years, she has received acclaim above all for her choral music inspired by Monteverdi, Bruckner and 14th-century Ars Nova. Mary Jane Leach’s music has been performed all over the globe and comprises commissions by notable ensembles and musicians, such as Fondazione ICO “Tito Schipa”, Relâche, The Downtown Ensemble, Newband, New York Treble Singers, Manuel Zurria, Emanuele Arciulli, Sarah Cahill, Guy Klucevsek, Shannon Peet and Libby Van Cleve. In 1995, she was the recipient of a prestigious grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts. Mary Jane Leach currently lives and works in a former church in Upstate New York.
