Mariano Pensotti

Biography

Mariano Pensotti is an Argentine author and theatre director. He studied Cinema, Visual Arts and Theatre in Buenos Aires, Spain and Italy. Together with set designer Mariana Tirantte, musician Diego Vainer and artistic producer Florencia Wasser he formed Grupo Marea. In his work he developed two different lines: one composed by stage performances where he writes his own literary texts and the play is strongly based on the work with the actors, and in parallel he produces site-specific performances where the main intention is to create a particular contrast between fiction and reality with fiction performed in public places.

As an author and director he created more than fifteen theatre performances in the past twelve years, among them La Obra (Wiener Festwochen 2023), Los Años, El Público, Diamante (opening production of Wiener Festwochen 2019), Arde brillante en los bosques de la noche, Cuando vuelva a casa voy a ser otro, Cineastas (Wiener Festwochen 2013), El pasado es un animal grotesco and the site-specific performance La Marea. In 2019, he premiered Beatrix Cenci, his first opera at the Opéra national de Rhin in Strasbourg, followed by Madama Butterfly in 2021 at the same place. Mariano Pensotti has become one of the most noted directors internationally. His works were presented in more than 30 cities around the world.
