Horsegirl (Part 01&02) /

I am Screaming & New Body

Computer-animated short film, 21:06 minutes

Jona Lingitz, Neptunia Monna Anarchus

A girl with horselike features who inhabits a mostly barren liminal world has strange circumstances thrust upon her by a relentlessly blowing wind. She does not move the plot, she is moved forcefully through it.

Scenes transition into each other with uncaring fluency. The atmosphere is serious and desperate one moment, quite silly and naive the next. In the middle of the film, she is ripped apart by a tragic fall into a deep mysterious hole. Her torso is destroyed, leaving only a head behind. She must trust the story to lead her to a new body.

The film's audio landscape is meant to cartoonise and derail. Foley sounds turn into song rhythms, voices change uncontrollably. The sonic space perpetually mutates, throughout the progression of the film. Entirely digital sounds are used to naturalise scenes, while acoustic recordings with offset delays prevent perfect timing satisfaction. The over-complexity of overlaying rhythms and clattering sounds add to the layer of fog that surrounds what happens to horsegirl and thereby weaves itself perfectly into the already chaotic visual language of the film.
