Whenever Tim Etchells, co-founder of the world-famous performance group Forced Entertainment, and violinist Aisha Orazbayeva collaborate, language and music become equal counterparts. Starting from joint improvisations, the two artists are presenting a world premiere for four performers and two musicians at this year’s Wiener Festwochen: a Heartbreaking Final. In the text that underpins the entire evening, author Tim Etchells articulates a restless thought process. His free associations depict a world in fragments. Political fears, recollections, love letters and film plots are whispered, sung, spoken or shouted out loud on stage. The voices convey meaning, but they also create sound, rhythm and tonality. With her composition for violin and percussion, Orazbayeva contrasts these voices with powerful musical elements that have a dynamic all of their own. She is as renowned for her unflinching interpretations as she is for her radical approaches both to classical music and the contemporary repertoire. A furious back-and-forth of language and music awaits!
