The playwright, screenwriter and director Guillermo Calderón was born in 1971 in Santiago de Chile. After studying acting in Chile and film theory in New York, he founded a theatrical ensemble and won international acclaim already with the group’s very first production Neva. His productions were invited to all major festivals in North and South America and Europe and have been shown in more than 25 countries altogether at venues that include the New York Public Theater, Center Stage (Los Angeles) or Edinburgh International Festival. In addition to screenplays, Guillermo Calderón has authored numerous commissioned plays, e.g. for the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus or Theater Basel. In 2017, the Royal Court Theater (London) premiered his piece B. Earlier editions of Wiener Festwochen showed his plays Neva and Diciembre in 2009 and Villa + Discurso in 2012.
