‘The line between art and life should be kept as fluid, and perhaps indistinct, as possible.’ These words of Allan Kaprow’s are certainly a defining characteristic of the artistic-activist work of South African choreographer and dancer Mamela Nyamza. When the Vienna performances of Black Privilege were cancelled, Mamela Nyamza happily stated she was willing to hold the planned workshop online nonetheless – and that’s definitely far more than a consolation prize. It’s an opportunity to get to know the artistic and personal position of this exceptional choreographer as she shares her vocabulary of movement, her specifically elaborated dance vocabulary with a small group, thereby highlighting the fluid transition between art and life.
