Day 22

Bouchra Ouizguen’s Éléphant ou le temps supendu illustrated

Overview digital gestures

Éléphant ou le temps suspendu is a beginning, a glimmer of hope when all that surrounds us is at risk of disappearing,’ wrote Bouchra Ouizguen more than a year ago when she added the subheading ‘time suspended’ to her new work. Little could the choreographer have foreseen the new levels of meaning with which this phrase would become charged in the wake of the global standstill brought on by the pandemic – or that the rehearsals for Éléphantwould be called off so abruptly just before the premiere. Right now it seems inconceivable that they could ever return to the preparations for a piece in which the performers are required to cling together to the point of utter exhaustion. So, for the time being, she shares with us some of the artworks of Moroccan painter Moulay Youssef Elkhafaï, who captured mood scenes of the rehearsals for the Companie O.
