Day 12

Dragón and the halted revolution

Overview digital gestures

The play Dragón by Chilean author and director Guillermo Calderón is about a group of politically active artists who meet up at a restaurant on a regular basis to plan their new commission for a major arts biennial. Here Calderón has taken the real-life restaurant Cantábrico on Plaza Italia in the centre of Santiago as the starting point for his new video clip contribution. Indeed, it was from this square that the protests against the growing social and economic injustice under President Piñera began to mobilise on 18 October 2019, with huge repercussions on the way the neighbourhood presented itself. The coronavirus had temporarily put an end to the uprising – but the resistance will go on.
