Encyclopédie de la parole

Biographie

Encyclopédie de la parole is an artistic project that explores the spoken word in all its forms. Since 2007, this group of musicians, poets, directors, visual artists, performers, sociolinguists and curators has been collecting all sorts of recordings and indexing them in a website archive according to specific characteristics or phenomena that include pacing, intonation, emphasis, timbre or melody. On the basis of this collection, which so far comprises over 1,000 audio documents, Encyclopédie de la parole produces works of sound art, performances and lectures, games and exhibitions. The group’s motto is: “We are all experts in speaking.” Encyclopédie de la parole has received the label European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. Wiener Festwochen 2019 featured the group’s previous project, Suite n°3 – Europe.
