Christopher Rüping, born 1985 in Hannover, is a theatre director. From 2016 to 2019 during Matthias Lilienthal’s artistic direction, he was director in residence at Münchner Kammerspiele. The central point in his creations are always the performers. He remains on the search for the new and yet unexperienced, trying out unestablished forms and conceptional approaches, applying a very personal and contemporary view on historical as well as recent matters. His works Das Fest, Trommeln in der Nacht (after Bertolt Brecht), the ten-hour-long adaption of classical greek antiquity Dionysos Stadt and Einfach das Ende der Welt were invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen and highly acclaimed by critics and the audience. The production Einfach das Ende der Welt was voted best production by Theater heute magazine in 2021 and, like Dionysos Stadt two years prior, awarded a NESTROY-prize as the best German language production.
