Calixto Neto

Biography
Calixto Neto, born in Recife, Brazil, is a dance artist living in France. He studied theatre at the Federal University of Pernambuco and dance with the Groupe Experimental de Danse before taking the master’s degree in choreography ex.e.r.ce at the Centre Choréographique National de Montpellier. There, he created his first solo Petites Explosions as well as the duet Pipoca with Bruno Freire. He performs in the creations of Bo/Kevin Jean, Anne Collod, Mette Ingvartsen, Ève Magot and Luiz de Abreu and was a member of Lia Rodrigues’ dance company. As resident of the Cité Internationale des Arts in 2018 he choreographed his second solo oh!rage, born from his interest in the peripheral occurrences on the fringe of institutional circuits. In 2021, Neto directed the films O Samba do Crioulo Doido: Rule and Compass and Pro Futuro Quilombo. His most recent works are Outrar in collaboration with Lia Rodrigues, the project Crazy Evil Nigght around the life and work of Julius Eastman and Feijoada, his first group piece. His new solo IL FAUX will be premiered in May 2023.
