Bashar Murkus
Biography
Bashar Murkus, a Palestinian playwright and director, was born in 1992 in Kafr Yasif and lives in Haifa. He is a co-founder of the independent Khashabi Theatre and has been its Artistic Director since 2015. His work has been presented internationally in cities including Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Tunis and New York. In 2014, Murkus sparked a political controversy with his production The Parallel Time at the Al-Midan Theatre, which led to significant cuts in theatre funding and became a symbol of the struggle of independent Palestinian art against censorship. His work combines physicality, music, visual imagery and oral traditions.
