The film The Black List (Volume 1) shows 30 leading Afro-American intellectuals in personal talks with Elvis Mitchell, editor-in-chief of Interview magazine. The conversations focus on the issue of identity and the realities of these personalities’ lives and work in the U.S. Photographer and documentarist Timothy Greenfield-Sanders has found an intimate, sensitive filmic language for this unique document featuring such Afro-American artists, writers and athletes as Chris Rock, Toni Morrison, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Al Sharpton, Bill T. Jones, Lou Gossett, Jr. or Thelma Golden. In January 2008, The Black List (Volume 1) will be presented at the international Sundance Film Festival. Its Austrian premiere will be in the context of Wiener Festwochen.
